desu

On a random Japanese handbook: DESU is the state-of-being verb in Japanese. It means "is" or "are". Since verbs are usually found at the end of a sentence, DESU what we usually see. I believe it's not just a polite ending

desu ni mcm i'm or is or are. in stead of putting it at the beginning of the sentence, japanese put it at the back. example
-San Furanshisuko kara desu. (I'm from San Francisco.)
-Watashi wa Kenji desu. (I'm Kenji.)
